Traditional framed shaker kitchens are a popular choice for many modern kitchens due to their distinctive design. Shaker kitchens offer elegant simplicity, with crafted furniture and cabinets that are beautifully made, solidly built yet understated. Framed shaker kitchens are popular as they offer the warmth and simplicity of a traditional country-style kitchen.
Take a look at our examples of shaker kitchens below and find out how Wentwood Kitchens can help you create your dream shaker kitchen.
What are Shaker Kitchens?
The Shaker kitchen design dates back to the 18th century, inspired by the Shaker religious movement’s principles of simplicity, functionality, and durability. Shaker furniture is known for its clean lines, minimal ornamentation, and commitment to craftsmanship.
Originally, Shakers believed in creating furniture that was long-lasting and highly functional, with no unnecessary adornments. This design philosophy has stood the test of time, making Shaker kitchens a timeless choice for modern homes that value practicality and elegance.
As such, they rejected any ornamental designs (other than simple carvings of the Tree of Life that became their signature) in favour of ones that were unadorned but robust. Being entirely self-sufficient, Shaker communities became expert craftsmen, and their furniture was well-regarded for its basic yet refined design.
While the Shaker movement has largely died out, the legacy of their unique style of furniture remains a popular choice to this day.
Framed or Frameless Shaker Kitchens?
At Wentwood Kitchens, we offer both framed and frameless shaker kitchens, each with its unique appeal.
Framed shaker kitchens feature a visible frame around the cabinet doors, lending a classic, rustic appearance reminiscent of traditional country kitchens.
On the other hand, frameless shaker kitchens provide a more streamlined and modern look, with cabinets that sit flush for a sleeker finish.
Whether you prefer the traditional appeal of framed designs or the clean lines of frameless cabinets, our team can bring your vision to life with fully customised options.
